HIKING ROUTES

IN THE COSTA BLANCA

Hiking Routes - Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca offers some of the most beautiful hikes in Spain. From gentle strolls across the stunning coastline to some of Javea's hidden sea caves, to more challenging walks in the Bernia mountain range. There's hiking routes for all abilities.

You will stay with us in our luxury and comfortable villa in the coastal town of Javea, the jewel of the Costa Blanca. We're based just 5 minutes from the towns main 'blue flag' beach and amenities. For larger groups we have bigger villas and hotels available.

Check out some of the hikes we have to offer below.

Eye of the Montgo/Summit

Montgo Javea

This challenging walk has many interesting features. The start with 1 ¼ km walk on lovely path beside the sea to cave down at water level (side trip down and/or view through hole from top). This is followed by a grueling walk up steep, good paths, then an easy flat stroll across the Plana to the remains of eleven windmills, previously used to grind wheat. An optional return path follows, but the best part of the walk and its’ beauty would be missed if you don’t continue to the Eye of Montgo or all the way to the Summit. Quite a strenuous climb but worth the trouble.

Its very impressive. Once used by the local Shepherds to help herd their flock and assist in counting them as the came through one by one. And we do the same on this route! Guadalest Reservoir

Hiking Views Guadalest

Another visually stunning and easy paced walk. We start off at the dam, giving us amazing views down the valley of the river de Guadalest, and head around the Reservoir in an anti-clockwise direction. Gaudalest itself is full of history, with the castle being built by the Moors back in the 12th century when there was a strong Moorish settlement here due to its perfect, defensive location and height at Approx. 595m. Nowadays, having been struck by earthquakes and bombs during the Spanish Civil war, Guadalest sits peacefully, perched on top of a steep rocky outcrop, with views that will simply stun you, and is now classed as a "Monument of Historical and Artistic Value" within Spain.

No wonder it attracts more than 2 million visitors a year, with the turquoise waters of the reservoir, Guadalest Castle and the high peaks on every side, you can't say no to this walk!

Sierra Gelada

The Sierra Gelada nature reserve in Albir, which includes the cliffs and sea, with most of the reserve actually being located at sea. This is due to its abundance of sea phanerogam (sea grass). It was classed as a nature reserve in 2005 due to its unique mix of where nature and culture have co-existed for centuries, with its ochre mines, which have been exploited since the time of the Phoenicians, to the hanging fossil dune which deserves special attention in its self. Not to mention the endemic plant species such as Fumewort and Prickly Juniper.

The views from the top look down to the famous and stunning town of Guadalest,  over to Altea, Villajoisa and over to the Puig Campana, the second highest peak. The route will take you up through a bolder field and an old ice fall, carved out by a glacier millennia ago. We will then traverse up the side of the massif wall to the top of the Aitana. This route is one of the most popular in the area, and its not hard to see why.

Sella Mule Pass Route

Sella Mule Pass Route
